The Japanese traditional musician, Takeharu Kunimoto, studied bluegrass music at East Tennessee State University and formed a band named “The Last Frontier.” It is the world first bluegrass band incorporating the Japanese traditional music instrument “shamisen” in the composition. With a fusion of America and Japan’s traditions and the boundless potential of traditional bluegrass and “rokyoku” that is the Japanese traditional performing art, “Takeharu Kunimoto and the Last Frontier” slowly launched out into the sea of music.
日本のトラディショナルミュージシャン、クニモトタケハルが東テネシー州立大学でブルーグラスを学びバンドを結成。「ラストフロンティア」と呼ばれるそのバンドは、典型的なブルーグラスの楽器編成の中に日本の代表的な伝統楽器三味線が加わった世界で始めての三味線ブルーグラスバンド。アメリカのトラディショナルと日本のトラディショナルの融合、トラディショナルブルーグラスと日本の伝統的な芸能「浪曲」の果てしない可能性を秘めて「タケハルクニモトとラストフロンティア」は今静かに船出した。
